The £640,000 major repair and strengthening programme on the historic Lowood Bridge between Galashiels and Melrose is now well underway and the following update is from Scottish Borders Council.
The complex scaffolding works are now complete and the temporary scaffold structure has been wrapped in protective plastic sheeting. This protection shields the works area from the worst of the weather and helps to maintain a suitable temperature for the masonry works.
Work to install the reinforced stainless steel anchors is also complete with all 74 anchors installed and work to rebuild the bridge parapets is now well underway.
Work will now concentrate on the various masonry repairs that are required before moving onto drainage, kerbing and ducting work which needs to be done before re-surfacing works can be undertaken.
