Borders Buses has suspended all its services through Darnick until further notice due to roadworks at the junction of Chiefswood Road and Abbotsford Road. The work, which is in relation to the Crawford’s Coatburn Green development, makes it difficult for buses to pass safely through the junction, so the bus company suspended all services with no warning for customers.
It is not known how long the suspension will last, with BT Openreach needing to carry out work in the same area once the builder has finished. At the moment, the nearest place to catch a bus is the Borders General Hospital, but the Darnick Village Development Trust (DVDT) has contacted Scottish Borders Council and requested a temporary bus stop be created at the Waverley Hotel.
Following enquiries by the DVDT, a Scottish Borders Council spokesperson said: “The works are being carried out by Crawford’s in connection with a new housing development. I understand that there was no advance notice of these works taking place. The BT/Openreach works planned for this junction due to start on Monday 1st October have been postponed until later this month.”
Borders Buses has now placed notices on the bus stops affected and asked passengers to monitor Facebook and Twitter for updates.
Note: The school buses and the Borders Reiver mini bus services are running as normal.
