Lowood Bridge will be closed to all vehicles for two weeks, from Monday December 4, for emergency remedial work after the monitoring equipment on the bridge detected some movement.
During the closure, the bridge parapet walls will be taken down and concrete safety barriers put in place. The bridge will then re-open week commencing 18 December and throughout the Christmas period but will close again to all vehicles on either Monday 8th or 15th of January for a period of at least 20 weeks.
The original 20 week programme was based on carrying out the works in spring/summer but because it now needs to be done in the winter, there is a possibility that the work will take longer. However, with the bridge being completely closed, every effort will be made to carry out the necessary works as quickly as can be achieved.
